Welcome to Chalk. Chalk is a service for money between mates, operated by Jydeon Pty Ltd (ACN 696 671 771, ABN 52 696 671 771). By creating an account or using Chalk, you agree to these Terms of Service.
Chalk lets you lend a mate money or record a debt that already exists, with settlement handled automatically (section 12). Eligible users can also access a portion of their earned wages before their regular payday. Please read these terms carefully before using the service.
To use Chalk, you must:
We reserve the right to refuse or revoke access if you do not meet these requirements or if we cannot verify your identity or income.
You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and any two-factor authentication (2FA) methods linked to your account.
You must notify us immediately at gidon@jydeon.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account. We are not liable for losses arising from unauthorised use of your credentials.
Before requesting an advance, you must complete identity verification. This may include providing government-issued identification documents. We use this information solely to verify your identity and comply with applicable anti-money laundering laws. We will not request advances or take any action on your behalf without your explicit consent.
Chalk provides earned wage access. Here is how it works:
Chalk charges a flat, transparent fee per advance. There are no hidden fees, no interest, and no compounding charges.
| Advance Amount | Flat Fee | Total Repaid |
|---|---|---|
| $100 | $4.60 | $104.60 |
The fee is disclosed before you confirm each advance. You will never be charged more than the stated fee. There are no late fees, no default fees, and no penalty interest.
Advances are provided under the short-term credit exemption in section 6(1) of the National Credit Code (Schedule 1 to the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009). The National Credit Code does not apply to advances because, under these Terms:
Because the exemption applies, Chalk does not hold an Australian Credit Licence and advances are not regulated credit contracts. Jydeon Pty Ltd is enrolled with AUSTRAC (AAN 207564202).
Repayment of the advance amount plus the applicable fee is collected automatically via direct debit when your salary is deposited into your linked bank account.
Your due date is fixed. The due date for each advance is set when you accept it and does not change. Collection attempts after the due date are recovery of an overdue amount. They do not extend the period for which credit is provided, and no fee, interest, or other charge accrues after the due date.
If the direct debit fails:
We do not charge late fees or default fees. We do not use collections agencies. We do not report unpaid advances to credit reporting agencies. The only consequence of non-repayment is that your Chalk account will be locked until the balance is resolved.
To verify your income and determine advance eligibility, Chalk accesses your bank transaction data through the Consumer Data Right (CDR) framework as a CDR representative of an accredited data recipient. The accredited provider is named in the consent flow when you connect your bank.
When you connect your bank account, you consent to Chalk accessing:
You may revoke your Open Banking consent at any time through the Chalk app or by contacting us. Revoking consent may affect your ability to request future advances. Your data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Repayments are collected by direct debit, which you authorise in the app before your first advance under a Direct Debit Request and Service Agreement. The authorisation names Jydeon Pty Ltd, describes the payment, and sets out your rights and our obligations.
You can:
Cancelling the direct debit does not cancel what you owe. If you cancel or pause it while an advance is outstanding, the debt remains due on the same due date and you must repay it by other means. Your account stays locked until the balance is cleared.
Chalk is designed for occasional use when you need early access to wages you have already earned. We actively discourage chronic or habitual use of wage advances.
If we identify patterns of frequent or increasing usage, we may:
You may cancel a pending advance request before funds are disbursed at no cost.
Mate loans let one Chalk user lend money to another through a shareable code. The loan is a private agreement between the two of you. Chalk is not a party to the loan, is not the lender, and charges nothing for making or collecting a loan: no fees, no interest, to anyone, on any plan. The borrower repays exactly the amount lent.
Free accounts can have five loans on the go at a time. Paid plans may raise that limit. We may change these limits for new loans as Chalk grows; a change never affects a loan already on the go. Any paid plan is a subscription for platform features only. No charge is ever made for, or in connection with, any individual loan, its repayment, or its collection.
How the money moves. Chalk acts only as the payments conduit for both of you, using our licensed payment partner. We debit the lender before the borrower is paid; we never advance our own funds, and if the lender's payment does not complete, the loan is cancelled. When repayment or collection occurs, we are performing this contract with each of you, not acting as anyone's agent or debt collector.
The lender bears the loss. If the borrower does not repay, we retry the debit up to 3 times and then stop. We do not guarantee repayment, we do not pursue borrowers, we do not use collections agencies, and there is no compensation scheme. The lender loses the money. Only lend what you can afford to lose.
The borrower owes a real debt. Accepting a loan authorises automatic collection of the repayment on the agreed date. A failed repayment locks your Chalk account until the balance is resolved, but no fee or interest is ever added.
Recorded debts. You can also record a debt that already exists between you, without money moving through Chalk first. The person who owes confirms the debt when they accept the code, and that acceptance authorises the automatic collection on the agreed date. Chalk does not verify the underlying debt, is not a party to it, and cannot resolve disagreements about it. If a debt recorded against you is not right, do not accept the code; the sender is not told why.
You can settle it yourselves. The person owed can mark a loan settled at any time before collection starts, whether it was paid back directly, in cash, or forgiven. Once marked settled, no debit happens. Marking a loan settled is final.
Nobody should ever pressure you to lend or borrow. You can decline a loan code without the sender being notified of the reason. If lending or borrowing is causing you stress, free help is available from the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007.
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
You may close your account at any time by contacting us, provided any outstanding balance is repaid.
