Target Market Determination
Chalk wage advance · Version 1.0 · Effective 5 August 2026
Issuer: Jydeon Pty Ltd (ACN 696 671 771, ABN 52 696 671 771).
Product: the Chalk wage advance. A fixed $100 advance on earned wages, with a flat $4.60 fee (total repayable $104.60), repaid automatically by direct debit on your next detected payday. No interest, no late or default fees, no rollovers, one open advance per user.
This document is made under section 994B of the Corporations Act 2001. It describes who the wage advance is designed for, who it is not for, and how we make sure it reaches the right people. It is not financial advice and it is not a summary of the product's terms; those are in the Terms of Service.
1. Who this product is for
The wage advance is designed for consumers who:
- are Australian residents aged 18 or over with an Australian bank account;
- receive regular salary or wage income of at least $500 per pay cycle, paid into that account on a detectable weekly, fortnightly, or monthly cycle;
- have already earned at least $100 of wages in the current pay cycle, verified from their connected bank data; and
- have a short-term, occasional need to access a small amount of their earned income before payday.
For these consumers, the product meets a simple need: bridging a small, temporary timing gap between earning wages and being paid them, at a fixed, fully disclosed cost, without entering a revolving or interest-bearing credit product and without credit reporting consequences.
2. Who this product is NOT for
- People without regular salary income, such as irregular gig income the product cannot detect a cycle for, or Centrelink-only income.
- People who need more than $100, or need funds for longer than one pay cycle. The product cannot be extended, refinanced, or rolled over.
- People who need an advance every pay cycle. Chronic use signals financial difficulty this product does not address, and its design (one open advance, fixed fee, account lock on failure) intentionally does not accommodate it. We point chronic users to free financial counselling: the National Debt Helpline, 1800 007 007.
- People currently unable to meet existing repayment obligations.
3. Why the design matches the target market
- Fixed $100 / $4.60. The cost is a single flat fee under 5%. There is no amount-of-credit decision to mis-size and no fee that scales with distress.
- Eligibility gated on earned wages. The advance is only available once you have demonstrably earned at least $100 in the current cycle, aligning repayment with money already earned rather than future capacity.
- Repayment on payday by direct debit. Collection is timed to salary arrival, and your direct debit is visible and cancellable in the app or by contacting us or your bank.
- Failure is terminal, not compounding. A failed repayment is retried at most 3 times, then written off with the account locked. No late fees, no interest, no collections agencies, no credit reporting. The maximum possible cost of this product to any consumer is $4.60 per advance.
- One open advance, no marketing of repeat use. Structural limits on the chronic-use pattern described in section 2.
4. How the product is distributed
- Distributed only directly by Jydeon Pty Ltd through chalk.jydeon.com. No brokers, no affiliates, no paid referral distribution.
- Available only after email verification, identity verification (ID document and selfie, manually reviewed), and a bank connection sufficient to detect salary and pay cycle. These checks operationalise section 1: consumers who do not match it cannot be issued the product.
- Marketing states the fee, the fixed amount, and the repayment mechanics plainly, does not target consumers in financial hardship, and does not promote habitual use.
5. Review
First review: within 12 months of the effective date, or immediately on any of these triggers:
- the write-off rate exceeding 3% of advances in any calendar month;
- more than 10% of active users taking an advance in 6 or more consecutive pay cycles;
- any complaint alleging unsuitability, hardship, or mis-sale;
- any change to the product's amount, fee, repayment mechanics, or distribution channel;
- a significant dealing outside the target market;
- regulatory change touching wage advances or the exemptions this product relies on;
- receipt of legal advice bearing on this determination.
We monitor advance volumes, repeat-use frequency per user, write-off rates, and complaints. Complaints alleging unsuitability are recorded and considered at each review.
6. Mate loans
No target market determination is required for mate loans. The loan is issued by the individual lender, not by Jydeon, and not in the course of a business of providing credit, so the design and distribution obligations do not apply to it (Corporations Regulations reg 7.8A.20(9)). What mate loans are, how they work, and who bears the risk is set out plainly in section 12 of the Terms of Service.
